4 Fun Summertime Activities That You’ll Love at Ober Mountain

Ober Mountain is one of the most popular summer destinations in the Smokies as you’ll find a variety of exciting activities for all ages! Half the fun is getting there, as to reach the mountaintop amusement park, you’ll take flight on one of America’s largest aerial tramways and travel a breathtaking 2,813 feet above sea level! Of course, if you’re not a fan of heights, you can also drive up Ski Mountain Road to access the park! Once at the peak, get ready for all types of incredible outdoor adventures that are sure to be a highlight of your vacation! Here are 4 fun summertime activities you’ll love at Ober Mountain:

1. Summer Tubing

If you’ve ever visited Ober Mountain during the winter months, you’ll know that the park is home to a breathtaking snow tubing hill with multiple lanes of action! If you always wanted to go tubing but don’t like the cold weather, now is your chance with Summer Tubing! This attraction uses Neveplast tracks, slippery lanes made of synthetic materials that allow riders to feel the sensation of being on compact snow! So grab your tube under the warmth of the summer sun and race downhill to your heart’s content, then take advantage of the Magic Carpet for a ride back to the top to do it all over again!

2. Tennessee Flyer

This mountain coaster starts with a 1000-foot tree-covered ride to the top, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the scenic views! Once at the top, you are now in control of your speed downhill as you navigate through 2750 feet of turns, dips, corkscrews and G-force adventures! The coaster carts can accommodate up to two riders, and each sled is securely attached to steel rails for a secure and comfortable rider!

3. Smoky Mountain Bobsled

The Smoky Mountain Bobsled is an alpine slide that has been providing downhill fun since 1976! As an early forerunner of the mountain coasters that have popped up in the Smokies over the years, you control the speed of your ride using a simple braking mechanism in the toboggan carts. Rather than riding in a cart that is attached to rails, you’ll race downhill in a pair of parallel tracks in a bobsled-style trough! Challenge your buddies to a race to the bottom or take it easy on your descent through the beautiful forests of Mount Harrison!

4. Sky Village Express

This scenic chairlift ride takes you on a peaceful journey to the peak of Mount Harrison, which is 455 feet above sea level and over 1650 feet higher than any other chairlift in Tennessee! This is the best way to experience the stunning views of the Smokies without hiking, and the flawless view of Mount LeConte is breathtaking! You can even see as far as Douglas Lake on a clear day! Once reaching the peak, step off to enjoy the elevated platform deck before riding back down or go for an adventure on the Cloud Catcher Zipline Experience!
